Writer's Block: No bloody way

I have good friends who hunt, but they eat what they kill. Here's a question for you: can you be good friends with someone who won't obtain their own food? Meat eaters who don't hunt, vegetarians who don't grow food...either way, you wind up with someone who is only contributing to waste. Wasted meat, wasted skins, wasted compost, spent fuel...If you don't earn the food you eat, that's just as bad as not eating your kill.
Granted, modern society makes earning all your own food nearly impossible, or at least a very bad idea. But some? Why is some so hard?

For the record, I'm a vegetarian because of the ecological footprint, I do not look down upon people for eating meat. Unless it's a KFC doubledown.
