While I'm positive that being educated will not cause your kids to be born with Autism, I would not be surprised to learn that the cause is a gene that is more prevalent in white people and becomes more likely to activate as you get older...much like Down's Syndrome (at least I know age is a factor there, race may not be, I don't remember).

I'm of the opinion that autism is over-diagnosed. In our society, we expect all children to perform at the same levels, and be good at the same things. When little Jane stuggles with reading, or Johnnie lacks hand-eye coordination, over-protective, over-educated parents go running to the doctor, and won't stop until they get a diagnosis, not wanting to hear "There is a bell curve".

Don't even get me started on what schools need to do to accomodate these "special needs" kids.

Oh, I get to see lots of that at work. I wish I could just tell parents that not everyone gets to be a rocket scientist when they grow up.
