Dresden Dolls followup
Apr. 16th, 2008 07:07 amI'm not saying they're not talented. The music itself is quality. And I'm sure the sentiments are genuine. No, what I don't like about them is...the way they sound. The same way I don't like skulls. You can draw the most beautiful, hi-fidelity, pen-and-ink skull, with gorgeous lighting, that somehow EMOTES even though it has no eyes...
And I'll still hate it because it's a skull in the first place and I don't like skulls.
This is the way in which I don't like the Dresden Dolls. Not that they're bad at music, but that they're good at bad music. I can't listen to 40 seconds of the same chord, no matter how well it's played.

Date: 2008-04-16 01:36 pm (UTC)Which is why we're covering a lot of relatively obscure songs from the 1930's and 1940's....nobody else is doing them!

Date: 2008-04-16 02:03 pm (UTC)I'm sorry if I came off at all like "WHY [smash] DON'T YOU LIKE [punch] DRESDEN DOLLS [kick]???"
Conversations about musical tastes create a war zone in my office, practically every other day.
You have every right to like exactly what you like, and not like what you don't like. I just figured I'd let you know that they do actually have the "grow on you" effect on some people, because I hated them at first, and they do progress as artists with their later work.
Now, if you said Muse sucks, THEM'S fightin' words. *wink/smile*
