If you've never had a broken heart, how do you know you have one?

If you've never lost anything, how do you know what has value?

Middle of the road is halfway back from the far side. Moderation is halfway back from destruction.

The cautions that need to be taken are of the immediate survival variety: wear a seatbelt. Use condoms. Don't get involved in criminal activity. Otherwise, take risks. Risk leads to failure. Failure leads to enlightenment. And it ain't that bad.

People are so attached to their safe spaces. What they don't realize is that they aren't real. Your husband might die in a car accident tomorrow on the way to work. You might develop pancreatic cancer which has no cure, no means of early detection, and a life expectancy of 3 months-2 years after diagnosis. The company that's providing your college scholarship might cease to exist after the building it's in is destroyed by international terrorists. Your lover might be cheating on you. There's no way to know. Nothing is really safe, so stop pretending and learn something.

What if you only have one chance at happiness and you don't take it?

"What if you only have one chance at happiness and you don't take it?"

That is a sad statement if I ever heard one. If you only had once chance at happiness, it hardly matters if you took it or not. Happiness can be made at any turn. I do not sit and wait for happiness to find me. I hunt it. I make it. I am it.

Think about it this way. You can beat a Full House with a pair of two's if you play your hand right. Who's happy now? The guy that had his happiness handed to him, and folded, or the guy that made happiness from nothing?

I generally agree with the rest, however.

The thing is, yeah it might be sad, but what if that's the case. And I'm not talking about the events of a game (although the siginificance of the game is altered drastically based on the stakes) but about life and love. Statistically speaking, there has to be a way in which each of us are happiest. This isn't bad. There just seems to have to be a highest possible level. What I have learned from my life is that the greatest possible sadness is knowing that you didn't do everything in your power to try to have it.

In a few conversations, people I've spoken to have gotten caught up in how important it is not to be careless. They see folly in making life-altering decisions for no apparent reason.

Why isn't it considered careless to squander opportunity?

Why don't people understand that every decision has the potential to be life-altering? You could have an aneurism at any moment. Do you regret anything? What if there is a hereafter and you spend the rest of eternity wishing you'd taken a chance that you were too scared to?

Beyond safeguarding your life, caution belongs on the wind.

And dude, if you're out there hunting your happiness and making it no matter what the circumstances, that's more than half the equation.

If you give in to fear than you will waste your life.
