Federally controlled public education?

I don't think the author is suggesting federally controlled education - it's more like she's suggesting there be actual standards in place, which would be refreshing, in my opinion.

This kind of reminds me of a controversy from a few years ago when the editor of Scientific Americans suggested that colleges may need to create special entrance exams for students that come from states that don't teach evolution.
