Firstly, don't take my response to wrong way. No one deserves to get shot for trying to cross the boarder, and hearing about anyone dying does not make me happy.

That being said, I can't fathom why anyone would be a proponent of letting everybody and anybody illegally enter this country & receive health care and benefits of a U.S. citizen. There are already enough people who were born here that are poverty stricken or have to struggle every day to make ends meet. Did you know that the average college grad starts their adult life at an average of $100K in debt from school loans? Even if you're attempting to make something of yourself, the system is already working against you.

I realize that the origins of this country was allowing people from around the world to come here and start a new life in a free country, and I absolutely support the spirit of that notion. But I think we have the right to demand that those who do enter our country do so legally. If people cut corners to get here, we shouldn't be automatically obligated to support them. At the rate we're going in the US, we can barely support ourselves.

As someone who regularly competes with immigrants for temp jobs, I am more aware of illegals than most people outside of the retail/fast food/menial labor sector. But that really isn't the point of this article, and I'm not interested in opening up a debate on them in my LJ.

What freaked me out was that, apparently, a small militia--they had GUNS--rushed the U.S. border from Mexico, and it didn't make the news. Even though the likelihood is that it's just a minor incident, I still think most Americans would want to know that this happened.
