What dogs are for
Feb. 23rd, 2009 08:49 pm1--If you look carefully, you can see that these dogs are NOT being hit. The baton is being waved near their faces...probably to try to get them to flinch.
2--Look at the JOY on their faces! Dogs need to work, and these are some very fulfilled dogs.
3--German shepherd takedown at 4 minutes is freaking AWESOME.
Searching schutzhund brought up a lot of video...there is an official American working dog trial organization. This deserves as much attention as agility, and both deserve more than dog shows. Dogs are way more than just pretty.
A word to anyone interested...schutzhund training involves creating and directing aggressive behavior. Rescued dogs are absolutely not the type to put through this. It should not be attempted with dogs that have been abused. Schutzhunds are raised from puppies in this form of training. Discipline this strict is too much to ask an adult dog from a difficult background to understand.
Also, there are lots of people who should not attempt schutzhund training. If you've ever struck anyone in anger, forget it. If your temper ever gets the better of you, forget it. Schutzhund training requires a Zen-like calm and discipline from the person. Trainers can never, EVER, be shaken or angered by failure.
