My mom used to barrel race back in the 60's...she won a lot of rodeo shows. Her horse was big, strong, healthy...and MATURE. A lot of bad things happen when horses start racing before they're 3...like they die before they're 15. My mom's horse, Joy, lived into her late 20s. Horses are made to run, but racehorses run too much, too soon. It's like asking a 12-year-old to run marathons. Their bodies deform. But(unlike most 12-yr-olds, more's the pity) they're so driven to please, they almost never refuse.

Second place doesn't do much for you when you're DEAD! ...just sayin'....
