Some of you may have noticed that I occasionally sound imaptient with religion. This is intentional. People like those behind "Expelled" are among the reasons why I have absolutey no patience with doctrine or dogma.

Why Intelligent Design Isn't Science: http://www.expelledexposed.com/

And if you would like me to have a more open-minded voice, please remember that I do, when I'm not on my livejournal. But this is my place to say what I really think, and what I really think is that religion is as much a crutch as drug abuse. I will mock it as I please. If you don't like it, don't read it.
I do care how my religious friends feel. But I'm not going to pretend I feel differently than I do in my own space just to protect their feelings. This is who I am.

there is a difference between mockery and legitimate criticism. Mockery is about feeling you have the right to insult someone for a specific reason, and Criticism is about identifying specific areas of concern and attempting to open a dialogue bout it.
I really don't think Mockery really describes the stances you tend to take. I really believe criticism does, because, for the most part, you attack problems you see, not people in a group, and back up what you say in clear and coherent arguments and with information. You seek to educate and invite people to think. The comments you make, though not universally agreed upon, are thought out an composed in such a way to elevate to and not detract from the larger conversation.

Well...thanks. That feels pretty good.

I'm used to it. When we were planning the wedding and I said that of course it was going to be at our church, my father used the word "superstition" in his response.

That said, the last thing I need is high-profile intellectuals that I've respected trying to turn something that isn't science into science. As a religious person who is also devoted to science, I find it insulting when people insist that I can't accept both. God is bigger than the box you try to put him in, man.

Superstition? Wow, I would never say that to someone planning a wedding. Like I said, I wouldn't even say this stuff at all except in my LJ, or among people who think the same way about it, and even then it's behind a cut, avoidable.
I don't want to push my views onto someone else any more than I want someone else's pushed on me.

I think what your dad said was pretty disrespectful...although I wasn't there and don't really know the context.

I wasn't even offended. In fact, if he'd said anything else it would have been weird. I know what he thinks of religion, I know my mother and I befuddle him, and you can't argue matters of faith, so we don't in my house. The religious belief situation in the Richlin house is unique.

I hope you don't think that I would be upset in anyway by something like this. I have no problem with pointing out flaws in logic, discrepancies, inconsistencies etc. And from what I've seen, you always discuss in a respectful manner, even when you don't receive the same respect in return.

And on this one, I agree with you.
