I have no desire to have children. This does not in any way make me less valuable than a parent.

No one is any less valuable than any other person. However, I disagree with the idea non-parents have the "same work/life balance needs" as parents.

Absolutely true. Parents have living human beings who are entirely dependent on them for their survival and well being.

However, I've been one of the people who had to pick up the slack when a parent was accommodated at the expense of the other employees. Employers have a responsibility to their staff to retain enough people to cover the parents' needs fairly.

I won't give up my day off because someone else's child has to go to the doctor.
