Pony Progress
Jul. 4th, 2012 10:39 pmAmerican Saddle Seat riding uses a double bit and 4 reins (well, 2 reins, but the way you hold them you have 2 in each hand so they count it as 4). The reins are the snaffle and the curb, as are the bits. Up until today, I have not used the curb.
It went pretty well.
I got my hands a bit tangled here and there, but I never let that transfer to the bit, so the horse didn't have trouble, even if I did. That's really important to me.
I rode Tess for the first time in a few months. I forgot how FAST she is! We flew, it was great. There is nothing in this world like being on the back of a horse that wants to go fast and really, really can.
I know I have the dexterity to use the curb properly and not tangle, I just have to figure it out.
Between learning a new rein, and the strength work my teachers have me doing, I think that in the next few months I am going to learn to canter.
