While I'm waiting for Julie...
Jun. 14th, 2004 11:15 amSo Granny C. has got to be in her mid-80s. And she danced more than a lot of people half her age at the reception! Of course, there is a precedent for such coolness on her part: until she could no longer drive, she rode a Harley. And when she was too thin to wear them anymore, she gave me two pairs of knee-high Italian leather boots. Stupid me, when the soles got crappy I gave them away. But my stupidity in no way detracts from how damn cool she is. She took over as grandma pretty much as soon as she met my family (she's Joey's maternal grandmother). With Elaine's baby, she's actually a great-grandma now. And she passed on her coolness--her daughter Patty has got to be 5'10", and she stands perfectly straight. Now, a teenage girl in the 50s and 60s who is that tall and stands with such good posture is a special thing. Most girls were embarrassed to be tall...still are...and so had bad posture. It takes a certain level of strength and confidence to carry yourself when you stand out in any way. I have a lot of respect for Patty for doing it, and for Granny C. for teaching her to. You go, Granny!
