This is very good news. No one should be violated for their sexual orientation.

The next step is to make minority-on-white violence a hate crime too. What's good for the goose...

I agree. Hopefully that won't take another decade (how long it took this to pass since it was proposed).

It already is. Public law #103-322A defines a hate crime as "a crime in which the defendant intentionally selects a victim, or in the case of a property crime, the property that is the object of the crime, because of the actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, gender, disability, or sexual orientation of any person." This does not exclude whites or any other race as hate crime victims.
