Things I did last night:

Helped Jay with his laundry. Made and ate Russian eggs benny (Jay did the eggs, so it was a cooperative effort). Now I'm out of capers and caviar and will have to find new. Set up my edibles on the deck, while Flap lounged next to me. He's liking his little safe patch of outside. Played WoW.

Tonight: 2 kinds of tortelloni (yes, oni not ini), spinach/herb and artichoke, with goat cheese pesto (I'm out of parmesan and not shopping again this week. This is how discoveries happen.) Playing more WoW. Meeting [ profile] cullyn above Achindoun to smash some pixels together.

So. The wedding is officially booked. That's all the news I've got.

Dinner tonight: Russian eggs benedict. English muffin, egg over-easy, smoked salmon, sour cream, capers, black caviar. Frigging delicious. Dessert: this giant walnut-raisin-muffin thing I got at work today and have managed not to touch.

I picked up a couple of edibles kits to grow on my balcony: mini strawberries and a salsa garden (cherry tomatos, cilantro, chiles). Planting them tonight, and picking up flowerboxes soon for transplanting.

WoW is running its Midsummer festival, so I'm racking up some achievments and exp on my main.

That's about it.

I had eggs benedict for dinner last night. It was delicious.

Also, I set up an auction on Runetotem that will make a minimum 200 gold for Heriotze...since someone already bid the minimum. Celiyne is pretty much the auction house staff for the time being.

Also, [ profile] brilligspoons should watch her mail, since Jay is mailing her prezzie for me today. Figure it'll take a couple of days to get up north.

This is the entirety of what I accomplished yesterday. Which means I have much to do today.

I have to sort through all my camping gear and see what we need for this weekend (a cooler, for starters). We're going out to dinner and then to pick up anything else we might need, including patchover food for Mudflap since his fancy pants prescription food, which I bought on SATURDAY and was charged for on MONDAY shipped on WEDNESDAY. It's annoying not living near a vet who carries it, but they're all farm vets out here.

Also, we have to get the apartment tidy since Killian will be coming by this weekend to feed the kitty.

I read part of one of the Gnomes books by Rien Poortvliet and Wil Huygen before I went to sleep last night, which is the mental equivalent of giving yourself a cup of cocoa and a snuggle. I loved those gnomes so much when I was little, and I was really amazed when I looked them up on Amazon and saw how much more material they'd put out that I never knew about.

One of the books I bought used is autographed by Poortvliet. I don't think the seller realized that, or they would have sold it for a LOT more.

All of you who get to work from home when you need to: do you remember what it's like to have to drag your ass into work on 5 hours sleep when you're sick and achy? I kinda hate you guys a little right now.

Mushroom ravioli with chicken & apple sausage and marinara sauce. Dessert: World of Warcraft. I WILL EAT THE PIXELS.

Making quiche. I found a recipe that uses crumbled bacon & cheese instead of a crust; now, I'd prefer to make a crust, but I have a lot to do tonight and will be very hungry when I get home, so I'll save that for a weekend.

2 pounds cubed butternut squash
1 small yellow onion, cut small but not diced
1 small red apple, cut same way
1 stick celery, cut same way

bake in oven preheated to 350 for 15 minutes and remove

pulse in food processor and then blend until smooth (without a blender you get a texture like rough applesauce, which is not what i was going for)

heat on stove over very low flame, adding

1 tbsp of butter or other (we're a Benecol household)
1/2 cup of dairy or dairy-like substance(I used skim milk)
dash of chili powder
dash of salt
dash of thyme
liberal amounts of: cinnamon, ground clove, ground ginger, nutmeg
two tbsp brown sugar

cook 20 minutes over low, stirring occasionally

Jay wound up adding more salt to his.

The flavor was great. I am so getting a blender for the leftovers.

Date night on a miserable rainy night with a nearly-but-not-quite healed lump on my head = takeout sushi and catching up on TrueBlood. Lovely way to spend the night with my honey.

Friday night is 80s night at QXT with Melissa and possibly my bro. More people should come.

Saturday Justin and [ profile] dagdalorijane are coming over for a WOW day.

Sunday is Midsummer Faire with [ profile] dagdalorijane and [ profile] cosmic_hiccup.

Jay's grandma thinks I'm pretty. :D

I'm exhausted. Slept horribly. By the time Jay stopped snoring, it was about 4:30 AM...just in time for the noisy neighbors to get up. I swear they wear tap shoes.

Tried to pay my LabCorp bill off online, but they want me to call them. That will happen Saturday, as I am NOT about to take whatever abuse they feel like giving me before I go to work.

Had an avocado for breakfast. It was nummy.

I got coffee and filters but forgot sugar, so I'll be stopping at Wawa again this morning.

I found out I like chocolate Silk. Go figure. I think I'll have some before I make like a fetus and head out.

Flap at the old place with Zoe and in the new, my tasty basil plant, old friends and Jay Kay Gutter Supply's newest tenant.

[Error: unknown template qotd]Probably Morroccan. They have lots of healthy Mediterranean things, I can avoid the spicy if I need to, and they won't make me eat feta or grape leaves.

I was sick yesterday with the heartburn that ate Tokyo, and I figured continuing the sleep deprivation of the last few weeks would only make it worse, so I stayed home and slept till 2:30 or so. Then I got the Burning Crusade (finally), so should I want to, I can make a Drannei. I soloed King Mukla in Booty Bay and made level 43, then decided my headache was bad enough and signed out. I really need new glasses. Spent the evening snuggled with Jay and watching Burn Notice, then took some Benadryl and went to bed early.

I'm currently reading The King's Grace, because everyone who reads Elizabethan fiction eventually moves on to Henrician.

Rewind to Sunday:
Breakfast with Jay and Melissa at the country diner. Maybe I shouldn't have had the potato pancakes? But they were so good!
Jay and I returned [ profile] fatherdog's car to his house, then drove up to Waldwick for the mass family birthday party. Thanks to turnpike traffic, I missed my mom's cousin OC (Owen Charles). Still had a nice time with the family, and Jay cut through all the Dell bs to get my aunt's internet and wireless printer up and running. I cook, he networks. We are useful couple!
We stopped by Wanaque to pick up some more stuff from the apartment, but it was 8 PM and I was exhausted, so we didn't get as much as we could have. Picked up my lil coffee pot, though. Now I just have to get some white vinegar to clean it.
Also, Sunday was my birthday. I am officially 29 and proud of it. Thank you everyone who wished me a happy. Got a couple of nice lil prezzies, but more importantly, people kind of made a fuss about me. I like fusses when they're happy.

Got up around 10 to drive out to Clinton for an 11:30 oil change...which the owner never bothered to inform his mechanics that he had scheduled, so let me tell you, they were THRILLED to see me 30 minutes before close. But, it got done. Then we went over to WalMart and got a couple of camp chairs, and stopped for sushi lunch before going home to shower and play video games.
Melissa came by around 4 and we hung out till Dave showed up around 6, and then we went to Ewing for a Bear Tavern party & BBQ. It was madness on par with the usual. Objects of interest were a cute baby, a broken rusty trampoline, a pair of agitated mini schnauzers, a moth, cookies, Dancing Bill, and a pile of cushions on the floor. I laughed till I hurt, which in retrospect may have contributed to the evil, evil heartburn, but fsck it. Also, if you own hentai and get married, your spouse now also owns hentai and needs to accept that. Photos/video if I get them.
Got to see Aaron before he moved away to Seattle, so that was bittersweet.
[ profile] fatherdog got drunker than I've seen him since college, so after putting some water in him, we decided to drive him home and call it a night.

Went to the Red Rooster Grill in Flemington with Jay and had a lovely fancy-pants dinner. The place is Zagat rated Excellent. Om nom a nom nom. Then we went to see Potter. I understand why the detractors don't like it, but honestly I was perfectly satisfied. There is also already some good fan-parody out about it. It is kinda weird how ripped Rupert Grint is. His biceps are as big as my head.

Tonight's plan is to visit with Travis and Kelly for a bit, and give Kelly some of Flap's extra things that Jay and I don't need anymore now that the kitty has only one home.

Enough with socially conscious dialogue! Time to just ramble.

Actually, I'm not dirty at all. But I am kind of a hippie.

I bought a jar of dandelion leek miso at the whole food store yesterday and had a spoonful with my steamed rice and veggies...and it was so satisfying I didn't need seconds. O.O Also, it was delicious.

I'm still using the Aveeno stuff for sensitive skin even though the rash is gone, and my skin is clearer and softer than it's been since I was in college and had no stress.

And in WOW, my level 30 druid is more than halfway to the achievement: "To All the Squirrels I've Loved Before," which involves /love-ing a bunch of low-level critters.

I wonder if I can get a WOW gnome figurine for when I start my balcony garden...

*begin nutshell*
Leafstone called me today. They want my updated resume, and they may have a receptionist gig in the works for me till I move. I'm not getting my hopes up, since they haven't yet performed for me at all, but hey. Any help is good. Meanwhile, I'm working on samples for my brother's business.

So I think I'm going to make eggs Benedict tomorrow. Have I ever made Hollandaise sauce? Why no, no I haven't. Nor have I separated an egg since the fifth grade. Let's see if it's like riding a bike for me.

Weight it dropping slowly, a few ounces a day overall. Good thing I like step aerobics.

Jay bought me new sneakers. He's so awesome.

I'm hosting Mother's Day. It's not a huge amount of work to get the place cleaned up and get the food made; I just have to be here to DO IT. I'm not sure what exactly she said that made me go, "I'll do it!" but there must have been something...

Got my tax refund. Once I deposit that mofo, I can get caught up on some things.

The world does not suck.

So, as most people who read this blog know, I'm not into St. Patrick's Day. Thus, the following story is hypocritical, but I'm ok with that.

I found out a few weeks ago that my mom was not going to be doing a St. Patrick's Day dinner. Can't really blame her; it's a lot of work for a Tuesday night. So I wanted to make a reservation for me and Jay at Thatcher McGee's, which is a marvelous Irish pub about five minutes from my house. But they wouldn't take reservations. Irish pub. No reservations. For St. Patrick's Day. So at noon the day before I decided, damn the torpedoes, I'll make it myself.

I should mention at this point that I've never cooked meat before, and most of my culinary excursions amount to boiling water and putting sliced veggies in a pot with some olive oil. Tasty, but still. Even a bugged-out chimp on Xanax could do it.

So, the plan was as follows: 2.5 pounds (smallest cut I could get) of corned beef and 3 pounds of baby red potatoes roasting in the oven, and a head of cabbage and a pound of baby carrots in a pot on the stove. Did the corned beef come with the requisite seasoning packet? Why no, no it didn't. So I had to MacGuyver something on the spot.

Justin had Karen over, so it was dinner for four.

The results? Well, all I have left is half the veggies and three potatoes. Dinner was DEVOURED while the cats sat begging on the kitchen floor.

That's right. I have discovered, at 28, that I can cook.

1) Persimmons are my new favorite fruit. They are sexier than peaches, plums, and avocado combined.

2) I've had a wonderful, awesome idea. But I can't share it, because the idea goblins might steal it. But someone has it to work on, and he knows who he is. Here's hoping that it hasn't been snapped up by June.
