Kevin Costner's machines provide hope for the Gulf. If you had told me this a year ago, I would not have believed you.

From a Fark comment explaining why this centrifuge is new technology:

"What makes it special is that typical separation equipment needs to be carefully adjusted to the density of the crap you're trying to separate. The trouble with this crude spill is that the density is not consistant. Costner's machine is designed for this problem, and is able to adjust on the fly. That's the new, brilliant part."

I'd like to think that if I had personal millions, I would also do my part to help save the world.

...that DC isn't a port city. If they were, there'd be oil on that thar Capitol Hill. By October. Which is the latest the oil will hit the Atlantic coastline.

"...you wouldn't want to eat the oysters that are busily filtering and reclaiming the water in polluted harbors, which is why, apparently, the "New Jersey Department of Completely Bonkers" has banned their cultivation, preferring toxic water and no bivalves to clean water and toxic bivalves..."--Cory Doctorow

Whose braid-dead idea was this? I LIKE clean water!

Things you, an ordinary citizen, can do about the oil spill:

That's how the Russians stopped leaking oil wells in the Soviet era. 5 deployments with an 80% success rate. I wonder how they came up with that rate? Did only 4 work?

Of course, that WOULD be a major treaty violation. Also, I'm pretty sure that's insane. Then again, 4 out of 5 is better than 0 out of 5...

Signal Boost: BP doesn't want the media talking about the leak. So let's keep talking about it, shall we?

The cleanup crews are getting sick, and aren't allowed to speak for themselves.

This is just so sad. Boycotting rosewood products won't actually accomplish anything, I just wanted to get your attention.
